Alexander Technique | Better School Chairs Campaign
Calls to ban school chairs that are 'bad' for children's backs Sign our petition: www.j.mp/SchoolChairsPetition With an estimated 20 percent of children already suffering from back pain, health experts are making fresh calls to prevent the use of chairs with backward sloping seats in schools. The Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT) has launched a campaign to raise awareness of how poor postural habits are often the root cause of back pain and can lead to long term health problems. The majority of pupils in the UK spend 15,000 hours during their school life using furniture that encourages them to bend their spines, forcing them to adopt poor posture. The resulting back pain is a slow and subtle injury which really takes a grip later in life. It's a little like smoking -- a bad habit that has long term consequences.
